Atalanta defender Jose Luis Palomino will undergo trial at the National Anti-Doping Court today and is at risk of a two-year ban.

The 32-year-old Argentinian defender tested positive for a clostebol metabolite during a surprise check by Nado Italia in the summer and was suspended as a precaution by the anti-doping agency during the pre-season. Clostebol is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid that is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

As highlighted by TMW, Palomino will undergo trial at the National Anti-Doping Court in Rome at 2pm local time this afternoon. The 32-year-old will plead not guilty and is currently at risk of being handed a two-year ban.

The Argentinian defender’s contract expires with la Dea at the end of this season and is unlikely to be renewed, so a ban may effectively end his career.

Palomino has made 203 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta since arriving from Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets in 2017.
