Atalanta winger Gosens rejects Newcastle for Inter

Inter are stepping up negotiations with Atalanta for Robin Gosens after the player agreed personal terms, snubbing a more lucrative proposal from Newcastle United.

Gosens had been reticent to leave in the January transfer window, especially after missing most of the season through injury.

He was also far from convinced that a move to Newcastle would be a good idea, seeing it as a step backwards from Champions League regulars Atalanta.

After La Gazzetta dello Sport suggested an Inter approach, now Sportitalia are confident the negotiations are progressing rapidly and Gosens is more than happy to accept a San Siro switch.

Inter would only be able to get him on loan with an option to buy, but that would not be a problem for Atalanta, who are not short on cash.

The contract proposal is believed to be worth €2.5m per season plus bonuses, significantly less than the €3.5m on offer from Newcastle.

It is all an improvement on his current €1m per season salary in Bergamo.

Atalanta just completed the signature of Jeremie Boga from Sassuolo, who covers the same left flank as Gosens.

Meanwhile, Atalanta have loaned striker Roberto Piccoli to Genoa.
