Inter are stepping up negotiations with Atalanta for Robin Gosens after the player agreed personal terms, snubbing a more lucrative proposal from Newcastle United.

Gosens had been reticent to leave in the January transfer window, especially after missing most of the season through injury.

He was also far from convinced that a move to Newcastle would be a good idea, seeing it as a step backwards from Champions League regulars Atalanta.

After La Gazzetta dello Sport suggested an Inter approach, now Sportitalia are confident the negotiations are progressing rapidly and Gosens is more than happy to accept a San Siro switch.

Inter battling Newcastle for Gosens

Inter would only be able to get him on loan with an option to buy, but that would not be a problem for Atalanta, who are not short on cash.

The contract proposal is believed to be worth €2.5m per season plus bonuses, significantly less than the €3.5m on offer from Newcastle.

It is all an improvement on his current €1m per season salary in Bergamo.

Atalanta just completed the signature of Jeremie Boga from Sassuolo, who covers the same left flank as Gosens.

Meanwhile, Atalanta have loaned striker Roberto Piccoli to Genoa.

  1. @Cypher… Comparing him to Lazaro shows how much you know about football. Your knowledge suits to your club directors!

  2. Excellent piece of business from Inter. Im sure he will be a great player for us that fits in Inzaghi’s system very well. Marotta and Ausilio are building a winning team for the long term, and i see Rube fans like Cypher crying salty tears about it haha.

  3. @cypher. Comparing him to Lazaro is a joke. Lazaro never has had even close to that level of talent or ability. Conte ruined Lazaro, not Inter.

  4. Lazaro wasn’t proven in Serie A, Gosens is. And some of the World’s best fullbacks shined at Inter like JZ, Brehme, Maicon and Hakimi. Cypher, switch Sport please.

  5. Guys don’t bother arguing logic with Cypher. According to him Juventus are the jewel of Italy and Alex Sandro is the best left back in the world. We shouldn’t tell him the truth so shh… here’s to many more years of the great jewel Alex Sandro gifting Inter more cups and scudettos, cheers!

  6. Forza Inter, we are only getting stronger plus we have our favourite mole in Sandro who will always gift us presents and drop points for the old granny.

  7. Alex Sandro is a future Inter great left back just like Kwadwo Asamoah.

Inter has proved to be a dumping ground for all of Juve’s expired products.

  8. Keep dumping them like Marotta then and throw in Dybala for free. If you’re happy with Arrivabene, Nedved, and Cherubini then who am I to criticize lol.. with those three in charge there’s a greater chance of Alex Sandro getting a new contract than him ever going to Inter.

  9. Roma fan here, but I very happy to see players like Gosens and Vlahovic staying in Serie A. A rising tide lifts all boats. A good day for calcio.
