The snow is still falling in Bergamo, but after a pitch inspection, Atalanta’s Champions League match with Villarreal has been delayed by 20 minutes.

It was meant to kick-off at the Gewiss Stadium at 20.00 GMT.

However, a heavy snowstorm over the Lombardy city prompted two different pitch inspections from English referee Anthony Taylor.

It was decided that, as the pitch had been cleared of snow and the intensity of the flurries had begun to calm down, kick-off would be postponed to 20.20 GMT.

If the game is not able to go ahead tonight and the snow gains strength again, then it is likely to be rescheduled for Thursday.

This is a crucial match, because a win would send Atalanta through to the Round of 16 for the third season in a row.

A draw would put Villarreal through and bump La Dea down to third place for the Europa League.

It is even possible that they could be knocked out of Europe completely if Atalanta lose and Young Boys also beat Manchester United.
