Atalanta director Giovanni Sartori shot down “false reports” that goalkeeper Marco Sportiello is heading to Napoli, while Alejandro Gomez is “not for sale.”
There were suggestions Sportiello would go to the Stadio San Paolo this summer after Pepe Reina suffered from muscular problems in pre-season training.
“There is a lot said about Sportiello, but most of the reports are false,” Sartori declared during a Press conference to present new signing Bryan Cabezas.
“There probably is interest from Napoli, but it’s purely one-sided. They have not yet communicated anything to Atalanta, so we are waiting to see what the situation is.
“The fact remains we are not just at the disposal of Napoli, so the club intends to keep Sportiello. There has been no formal offer, so figures being bandied about were invented by a journalist or someone who is leaking these stories.
“I repeat, we don’t want to sell Sportiello and the more time passes, the less likely he is to leave. We consider him important and the same is true of Gomez, as there have been no negotiations, no offers and no meetings. Above all, he is not for sale.”
