DUBLIN, IRELAND - MAY 22: Ademola Lookman of Atalanta BC bites their winner's medal as he celebrates victory after the UEFA Europa League 2023/24 final match between Atalanta BC and Bayer 04 Leverkusen at Dublin Arena on May 22, 2024 in Dublin, Ireland. (Photo by Michael Regan/Getty Images)

Ademola Lookman is not in the Atalanta squad for tomorrow’s Serie A season opener against Lecce amid reports he requested a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

It would be another devastating blow to La Dea, who are already missing Teun Koopmeiners over a similar situation with Juventus talks.

The rumour emerged this morning that PSG had contacted Lookman’s entourage and asked about his availability.

Although no proposal has been made to the club, it still seemingly proved enough to turn the Nigeria international’s head and he reportedly asked not to be called up for the Lecce game on Monday.

His name does not appear in the official squad list travelling to Lecce for the Serie A match today.

Lookman asked Atalanta to be left out

He turns 27 in October and scored a hat-trick in the Europa League Final against Bayer Leverkusen last season.

Atalanta purchased Lookman from RB Leipzig in 2022 for €9.35m plus bonuses.

Born and raised in London, he scored a total 32 goals with 18 assists in 79 competitive appearances for Atalanta, most recently the UEFA Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday.

This leaves the Bergamo boys with only two strikers available, Mateo Retegui and Charles De Ketelaere, as Gianluca Scamacca and Nicolo’ Zaniolo are injured.

  1. At 27, he is basically at the peak moment to secure the best contract of his career. I don’t blame him at all. Something is clearly broken at Atalanta though for a 2nd player to down tools.

  2. Replace him with Okafor. Super talented kid who should be playing regularly. Instead of bench warming for Chuck-Lakaka-Lazy and Captain YankMNT.

  3. Seen this miles away after the Europa, someone will come knocking on the door for him. But the timing for this approach by this fake france-wannabe-a-great-club is unethical. They don’t even approach the club first.

  4. Saeed Harrari
Fofana practically admitted being in touch with Milan for months yesterday😂 In the days of agents and a wonderful tool called WhatsApp, it is impossible to stop reps of other clubs speaking to yours players. It happens everyday.
