Robin Gosens will not play again in 2021, as the Atalanta wing-back has returned to Germany for treatment on his injury.

The 27-year-old has been out of action since September 30 due to a muscular tear in his right thigh and had been due for a comeback last week, only to suffer a relapse in training.

According to the latest reports, Atalanta have decided to send Gosens back to Germany ahead of the Christmas break so he can have specialist treatment.

He is hoping to make a full recovery and be back for their games at the start of 2022.

The Germany international made only eight competitive appearances for his club this season between Serie A and the Champions League, contributing two goals and one assist.

He had been one of their most effective players last term, with 12 goals and eight assists in 44 official fixtures, so has been sorely missed in the current campaign.
