Atalanta have been given a one-match closure of the Curva Nord Pisani for racist chanting against Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, but the sentence is suspended for one year.

The centre-back was subjected to the racist chanting in Sunday’s win at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

It was also alleged that a bottle was thrown at him, but today’s disciplinary report has only sanctioned the Orobici for the racism offences.

“The Federal Prosecutor’s report indicated, among other things, that supporters of the club Atalanta, who were gathered in the Curva Nord Pisani section, were responsible in the 20th minute of the second half in the number of around 4,000 [compared to the 8,068 occupants] and at the end of the match with the approximately 300 still present, of racial discrimination against the Napoli player Koulibaly,” today’s report states.

“Considering that the chants were heard by all three of the Prosecutor’s observers, positioned in areas of the stadium which are distant from the area in question, and that the behaviour was large enough and clear enough, the conditions exist for sanctions under article 16 paragraph 2.

“It is therefore resolved that the club Atalanta will be obliged to play one match with the section known as the Curva Nord Pisani absent of fans, with the provision that the execution of this sanction is suspended for one year.

“This carries the warning that, if a similar violation is committed during this period, the suspension will be withdrawn and the penalty will be added to the one imposed for the new violation.”

Elsewhere, Inter have been fined €3,500 for delaying the start of their second half against Roma, Bologna have been hit with €3,000 after a smoke bomb was thrown onto the pitch and Verona have been given the same sanction for a flare being thrown at the pitch.

On the pitch, Milan defender Ricardo Rodriguez is suspended for one match for his red card against Cagliari, as are the Isolani’s Nicola Barella and Bruno Zuculini of Verona.

Leonardo Pavoletti picked up a fifth booking of the season against Milan, so he will also miss Week 22.
