No city in Italy suffered more deaths from coronavirus than Bergamo, with reportedly over 6,000 succumbing to the illness here alone.
“This is not just any restart. It’s for a region that has suffered three months of living in warfare. Nobody can forget the sounds of the ambulances streaking down the street,” Marino told Sky Sport Italia.
“What we are experiencing now is something unique to the people of Bergamo and shows the strength inherent in the DNA of these people.
“It is not easy, because the last few months have been so difficult, uncertain and worrying for players, staff and club, but the people of Bergamo have always been tough and we don’t give in.”
The most iconic image of the crisis in Italy was the video of a military convoy driving out of the city carrying coffins because the local crematorium simply could not keep up.
