Aleksey Miranchuk has been personally affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine but Atalanta’s support is proving vital.

The 26-year-old Russian forward is struggling to focus on football in recent weeks, with his mind filled with thoughts on the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. Atalanta, the fans and his teammates have not stopped supporting Miranchuk, however. His refusal to celebrate after scoring against Sampdoria was touching but the hugs from his teammates sent a message loud and clear, that he was a part of the family.

Miranchuk risked leaving Atalanta last summer when Milan were strongly interested in him, as were Genoa in the January transfer window, but now it’s clear that he’s more and more at home in Bergamo, and he could become an even more regular feature under Gian Piero Gasperini.
