Atalanta are reportedly ready to challenge Lazio for the signature of Girondins de Bordeaux midfielder Toma Basic.

Sportitalia have said for weeks, even months, that the player has a deal with the Aquile and it’s only a matter of time before he signs the contract.

However, the situation drags on and there are still no developments, with the Biancocelesti not even signing five players to contracts who have been training with the squad already.

Joaquin Correa’s sale – or lack of it – is stalling the entire transfer strategy for Maurizio Sarri’s team.

Now the Corriere dello Sport suggests Atalanta could intercept with a proposal of their own for Basic.

The asking price from Bordeaux is €7-10m, because his contract is running down and will expire in June 2022.

The Croatia international has two senior caps under his belt and will turn 26 in November.

He scored four goals and provided one assist in 34 Ligue 1 appearances for Bordeaux last season.
