Atalanta on Hojlund sale to Man Utd and why Koopmeiners going nowhere

Atalanta director Luca Percassi discusses the showdown with Juventus, selling Rasmus Hojlund to Manchester United and why Teun Koopmeiners is going nowhere.

It kicks off at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from this game and Roma-Frosinone on the LIVEBLOG.

The big doubt in the build-up had been Charles De Ketelaere, but he has passed a fitness test after a muscular issue and is in the starting XI.

His presence is badly needed in attack, as Gianluca Scamacca and El Bilal Toure are both out of action for several weeks.

“Considering the number of games and international fixtures, the coach is using many players. That is one of his great strengths, that he gives everyone a chance,” Percassi told DAZN.

Atalanta had intended to fill the gap left by Hojlund with Scamacca and Toure, but both are out injured.

It was nonetheless a hugely profitable deal, signing Hojlund for €20m and selling him to Manchester United a year later for €75m plus bonuses.

“We are happy with the work we did with Hojlund and it was only right that Atalanta made the lad happy when an offer came in from one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

However, Napoli reportedly made an offer worth €50m for midfielder Koopmeiners this summer and it was rejected out of hand.

“The President said that Koopmeiners would not be sold and we stuck to that promise. He embodies the Atalanta spirit, he always gives 100 per cent, is a great professional and of course has skills that are there for all to see.”
