Atalanta forward Aleksei Miranchuk is reportedly close to joining Atlanta United in Major League Soccer, according to Sky Sport Italia, rather than D.C. United.

The two clubs have a very similar name, but are in completely different continents, so it is quite a change of pace for the Russian.

Several MLS sides had shown an interest in Miranchuk, including D.C. United, but Atlanta United seem to be the favourites with a proposal worth €11m to sign him.

He turns 29 in October and is leaving Atalanta because his contract in Bergamo was due to expire in June 2025.

Miranchuk ready for MLS move

Starting his career at Lokomotiv Moscow, Miranchuk made the leap to Serie A in 2020 for Atalanta at a cost of €14.5m.

He spent the 2022-23 season on loan with Torino, then returned to La Dea where he helped them win the Europa League, qualify for the Champions League and reach the Coppa Italia Final.

That was thanks to four goals and 12 assists in 42 competitive appearances this term.
