Atalanta have decided to move ahead with Gian Piero Gasperini, regardless of how the final game of the season goes.

It’s been a difficult season in Bergamo for the 64-year-old Italian coach and his players, who have failed to maintain their league momentum following a long European campaign, which included both Champions League group stage games and three rounds of the Europa League. The team now sit 8th in the table and risk missing out on European competition entirely.

As reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, Atalanta have decided to move forward with Gasperini as both the Percassi family and the new American ownership have underlined their full confidence in the Italian coach.

The owners are planning to invest into the squad this summer in order to start a new cycle in Bergamo, ready to fight to return to the top four again. A win against Empoli tomorrow could see them finish 7th, depending on Fiorentina’s result, and that would qualify them for the Europa Conference League.

  1. I agree Milan Fan, the problem is he has squeezed so much out of the squad for so long. Players only tolerate so much, especially when the get accustomed to over-achieving. Fantastic coach though.
