It’s bad news for Gianluca Scamacca and Atalanta after medical tests confirmed that the striker had suffered a serious ligament injury and will need surgery.
The 25-year-old Italian striker was carried off the pitch of the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Sunday evening during a pre-season friendly with Parma, having suffered an issue with his left knee after his studs awkwardly caught on the turf as he fell to the ground.
It was an incredibly worrying moment for Atalanta, who are gearing up for their UEFA Super Cup clash with Real Madrid on August 14th. Scamacca played an important role in the team’s success last term and represented Italy at the recent European Championship.
Scamacca suffers knee injury
Gianluca Di Marzio details how tests confirmed that Scamacca has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, an issue that’ll require an operation to resolve. As such, he’ll be sidelined for the majority of the upcoming 2024-25 Serie A season, missing at least five or six months of action.
The 25-year-old will undergo surgery in the coming hours at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome, where he’ll be operated on by professor Pier Paolo Mariani.
