Atalanta lost German international Robin Gosens just 10 minutes into today’s Champions League game against Young Boys with a muscular injury.

The wing-back slipped on the turf at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo and seemed to hyper-extend his leg.

Medical staff immediately called for a substitution and he was replaced by Joakim Maehle.

While Gosens was able to leave the pitch without the aid of a stretcher, he was supported by two members of the medical staff and appeared to be in great pain.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the initial suggestion is that the problem is with his flexor and therefore muscular rather than a knee.

Nonetheless, it’s extremely unlikely that Gosens will be fit enough for this weekend’s Serie A showdown with Milan.

He could also be forced to pull out of international duty with Germany next week.

The 27-year-old has already contributed two goals and one assists in seven competitive games for Atalanta so far this season.
