Atalanta will be without one of their major summer signings for the opening Serie A game of the season, as Ederson has sustained a thigh strain.
The forward was diagnosed with a lesion to the femoral bicep in his left thigh.
It is said to be a minor lesion, so it is not yet clear how long he will be out of action, but Ederson is out of Saturday’s Serie A opener against Sampdoria.
Ederson was one of the biggest Atalanta signing of the summer, as the 23-year-old cost €21m to purchase from Salernitana.
He was also probably their most impressive performer in pre-season friendlies, so this is a blow for coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
