Atalanta looking at Thauvin

Reports of Atalanta interest in Florian Thauvin have surged forward again after he turned down an Olympique Marseille contract extension.

The 27-year-old cost €11m from Newcastle United in 2017 and is only under contract in Marseille until June 2021.

He barely played in the 2019-20 campaign following ankle surgery in September and is now ready to move on.

In the 2018-19 season, Thauvin scored 18 goals with nine assists in 37 competitive matches for OM.

According to Tuttomercatoweb and La Gazzetta dello Sport, Thauvin has caught the eye of Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

He’s believed to be available for €15-20m, although the sticking point could well be his salary.

This would still be significantly cheaper than the alternative, Jeremie Boga of Sassuolo, who seems to be closer to Napoli.

Atalanta were minutes away from knocking PSG out of the Champions League quarter-final and have qualified for the tournament again next season.
