It’s partly to ensure they get rest ahead of the decisive Champions League visit to Ajax.

However, there is also a feeling of punishment from coach Gian Piero Gasperini towards the pair.
Gomez was substituted at half-time during the 1-1 draw with Midtjylland, reportedly because he had refused to follow orders from the touchline and was arguing back with his coach.
Ilicic was also said to be involved in some tension during that game and has still not rediscovered his old form.
Nonetheless, both are expected to start in Amsterdam next week.
