Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso is expected to be out of action for circa two months, so his participation with Argentina in the 2022 World Cup is at risk.

The shot-stopper was left with head trauma and compression fractures of his cheekbone, orbital bone and jaw following an accidental clash of heads with teammate Merih Demiral.

This incident occurred in the opening minutes of Atalanta’s 1-0 Serie A victory away to Roma on Sunday.

Musso was taken to hospital, where he remained overnight, and had surgery yesterday to stabilise the fracture with metal plaques and screws.

According to Sky Sport Italia, it is now believed he will be out of action for circa two months, so is not expected back in Serie A until 2023.

It also means his participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is at risk, a real blow for the Argentina international.

Although not first choice for the Seleccion, Musso is a regular in the Argentina squad.
