Atalanta fans moved injured midfielder Marten de Roon to tears this morning, by hanging a banner in front of his home: ‘You have already conquered your cup.’
De Roon will miss Wednesday’s Europa League Final against Bayer Leverkusen due to an injury suffered during the Coppa Italia Final against Juventus last week.
The Netherlands international shared an emotional message on social media last week saying that what should have been “the most important week” of his career had become “the biggest nightmare.”
Atalanta fans tried to cheer him up this morning leaving a banner right in front of his home in Bergamo.
The banner reads: “Sense of belonging, sacrifice and a sweaty shirt at all times. De Roon, you have already conquered your cup.”

De Roon shared the picture on his official Instagram account, with a message for Atalanta supporters.
“Ok, this made me tear up this morning,” wrote the midfielder.
“I knew we have special fans, but this is so beautiful and such a surprise—right in front of our house, one day before the big final. Thank you so much; it’s truly special.”
De Roon has been a key player for Atalanta this season. Only two players, Berat Djimsiti (4,158) and Ederson (3,995), have played more minutes than the 33-year-old (3,938) across all competitions in 2023-24.
