Atalanta have reportedly activated their option to extend Remo Freuler’s contract to June 2023, but are also working on a longer deal.
The 29-year-old Swiss international has been in Bergamo since January 2016, when he left FC Luzern for €2m.
His current contract runs to the end of this season, but the club has an option to extend to 2023 and activated it this week.
According to Sportitalia and Tuttosport, Atalanta are also working to negotiate a new and extended contract with improved wages.
Freuler has long been a key figure in Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad, seeing them go from relegation strugglers to a third consecutive campaign in the Champions League.
The midfielder has made seven appearances for La Dea so far this season, scoring one goal in the Champions League draw with Villarreal.
