Atalanta Curva to be closed after racist abused targeted at Juventus’ Vlahovic

The Sporting judge in Italy has ruled that the Curva Nord Pisani section of Atalanta’s stadium will be closed for one round of Serie A fixtures after racist chants were targeted in the direction of Dusan Vlahovic during the 2-0 loss to Juventus on Sunday afternoon.

Atalanta’s next scheduled home game is against Hellas Verona on Saturday May 20.

Vlahovic was subjected to a series of vulgar chants in the closing stages of the game at the Gewiss Stadium, which only worsened after he put a brilliant effort into the top corner in the eighth minute of injury time.

The official report from the Giudice Sportivo claimed that “up to 80%” of approximately 9,000 supporters in the relevant section of the stadium were involved in the chanting.

Atalanta have also received a €10,000 fine as a consequence of supporters throwing projectiles onto the pitch and for inciting offensive chants towards the referee during the 21st minute of the game.

Vlahovic was shown a yellow card for his response to the abuse he was receiving from the stands, which has also been upheld in the official report.
