Atalanta announce that Colombia international striker Luis Muriel will be out for some time with a serious muscular lesion.

It was already reported yesterday that the forward had sustained an injury, but the extent of it is still not entirely clear.

A statement from the club this evening confirms Muriel underwent tests that showed ‘a serious muscular lesion. The recovery time will not be rapid.’

It is in fact so bad that Atalanta medics want to wait seven days for total rest and physiotherapy before they will perform more tests and attempt to make an accurate reading of how long he will be out of action for.

This is a particularly serious blow considering his fellow Colombia international Duvan Zapata is also currently injured.

However, Duvan Zapata did return to training with the team today, even though the club statement reiterates he remains in doubt for Saturday’s Serie A match against Fiorentina.

Roberto Piccoli, who has now recovered from an injury, is therefore the favourite to start upfront this weekend.
