Atalanta confirm that defender Jose Luis Palomino has been suspended after failing a doping test, giving more details on the banned substance that was found.
The centre-back has been suspended as a precaution by the anti-doping agency after a surprise test during pre-season training.
It had been initially reported that Palomino had tested positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid that was in the headlines in the early 2000s after a spate of players including Pep Guardiola and Edgar Davids tested positive in Serie A.
It was later found that the substance was included, but not named on the list of ingredients, in several vitamin integrators.
However, Atalanta have now clarified that Palomino’s test highlighted the presence of a clostebol metabolite.
Clostebol is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid that is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
More tests will be performed on the original sample to confirm the presence of the clostebol metabolite and Atalanta medical staff and Palomino will present a list of substances he has taken to see where it could have come from.

At this stage of the season, players are given all sorts of supplements not only for energy but also weight loss. I doubt he has gone and taken them himself, so questions have to be asked of the people around him.
Investigation are ongoing, he could have get it from somewhere and might not be deliberate, use your brains, wait for further testing outcomes before you shoot the guy, jeez.
Can’t agree more with what has been said above, you have to be so careful with what your intake is and, I guess, could be easy to take something by accident. Let the tests finding guide they way and the Atalanta staff work with the doping agency to find the cause. If it comes out as deliberate cheating, then those responsible need to be punished.
