Atalanta remain interested in Birmingham midfielder Jordan James and are confident the English clubs will lower their asking price in the summer.

La Dea have been scouting the Wales international for several months and were in advanced talks to sign him during the January transfer window.

However, they never matched Birmingham’s €10m asking price, a fee that La Dea hope will lower in the summer.

According to Wednesday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport on page 20, the fact that Birmingham are fighting for survival in the English Championship suggests they will reduce their asking price for the promising midfielder, even if they don’t get relegated. At the same time, James’ contract runs out in June 2025, so La Dea remain confident they can sign the 19-year-old for less than €10m after June.

James has been called up by Wales for the Euro 2024 Qualying Playoffs and has eight international appearances to his name at a senior level.

He has scored eight goals in 41 appearances across all competitions with Birmingham this season.
