La Dea had only ever won a single piece of silverware in their 116-year career, the Coppa Italia in 1963, and lost the Coppa Italia Final to Juventus only a week ago.
However, they crushed Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in Dublin thanks to an Ademola Lookman hat-trick and picked up their winner’s medals.
Djimsiti was the captain on the night, because De Roon and Rafael Toloi were injured, but he carried over the trophy and then handed it to the first two in line for the captaincy to make that historic moment of lifting the Europa League to the sky.
Although they were injured, De Roon, Emil Holm and Toloi were all sat on the bench so they could participate in the Final.
