Although RB Leipzig are one of the main candidates to win the Europa League, Atalanta will only meet Barcelona or West Ham in the Final.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s men will travel to Germany again for the Europa League quarter-finals after eliminating Bayer Leverkusen in the Round of 16.

RB Leipzig were among the most challenging opponents in the pot with Barcelona and West Ham, but Atalanta will only meet the La Liga giants or the Hammers in the Final.

After being dropped from the Champions League, Barcelona eliminated Napoli in the play-off knockout phase. The Catalans are arguably the favourite to lift the trophy in May.

If Atalanta beat the Germans in the quarter-finals, they’ll meet Braga or Rangers Glasgow in the semis, playing the first leg at home.

Atalanta will visit Leipzig in the first leg of the quarter-finals on March 7, while the decider will be played in Bergamo one week later. The dates for the semi-finals are April 28 (first leg) and May 5 (second leg). The Final will be played at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Sevilla on May 18.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side sits sixth in Serie A, eight points off fourth-placed Juventus with a game in hand. They can still qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four or by winning the Europa League.

Atalanta get RB Leipzig in Europa League quarter-finals draw

  1. Don’t forget Lyon, who are one of the strongest teams remaining also. They are all on the other side. It’s a really good draw for Atalanta. They will have to make the final.

  2. Strange to think that Atalanta would be more scared of West Ham than Liepzig lol.

I can see why they’d want to avoid Barca, but WH are probably no better than the others left, though they are tough to beat.

Liepzig will be a tough game, and a hard one to predict. Hopefully Atalanta get through it, because he semi could be easier.

  3. Lipsia will not be a walk in the park. They have a lot of quality, and a red-hot striker in Nkunku. I don’t think Atalanta are the favourites. It’s 50/50. With that said, if Atalanta make it through, they have a really good shot at making it to the finals. And a Barca Atalanta final would be more of a Champions League game than Europa.
