Atalanta have scored eight goals for the first time in their Serie A history, but it is still not the highest-scoring game in the league.

La Dea hammered Salernitana 8-2 at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo this evening and set their own club record, having already hit seven on three previous occasions.

All of them were under the guidance of coach Gian Piero Gasperini, beating Udinese 7-1 at home in October 2019, Lecce 7-2 away in March 2020 and Torino 7-0 away in January 2020.

However, this was the first time that Atalanta enjoyed eight goals in a single Serie A match.

The last team to net – and indeed concede – eight in one Serie A fixture was Inter 8-2 Padova on April 14, 1996.

None of these games match the record for the highest-scoring Serie A game in history, although that too involved Atalanta on the losing side.

That goes to Milan 9-3 Atalanta on October 15, 1972.
