Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini confirms they are trying to keep Amad Diallo Traore until June, delaying his Manchester United move.

The 18-year-old was sold for €21m plus up to another €20m in various bonuses and add-ons, with the deal done over the summer to be active from January.

It was largely agreed so early in order to by-pass the new rules limiting players coming in from abroad following Brexit.

It was largely agreed so early in order to by-pass the new rules limiting players coming in from abroad following Brexit.

However, with captain Papu Gomez essentially frozen out of the squad and awaiting his transfer, Atalanta are eager to keep Diallo for another six months.

Gasperini confirmed as much in today’s press conference, although it remains to be seen whether Manchester United or indeed Diallo will accept that change of plan.

“There is an internal solution that could be very interesting, which is Amad Diallo. Clearly, Manchester United own him, but he could remain with us for a few more months. I really like him, he’s only 18, and I’d like him to stay until June, but obviously it depends on his club.”

He made just two appearances for Atalanta this season, both as a substitute, in Serie A and the Champions League.
