Atalanta allow Ilicic to join Milan on loan

There may well be a crucial turning point for Josip Ilicic’s move to Milan, as Atalanta are reportedly open to a paid loan with option to buy.

The Slovenian has asked to leave Bergamo this summer, as confirmed by coach Gian Piero Gasperini, and he would be interested in the San Siro switch, especially as they have qualified for the Champions League.

The problem so far has been agreeing a fee, as Milan are proposing half the €7m asking price.

A potentially decisive development occurred today, as La Gazzetta dello Sport claim Atalanta are now ready to let Ilicic join Milan on loan with an option to buy.

It would be a paid loan, so bringing in some money straight away, but without the guarantee he will make the move permanent in 2022.

Ilicic remains much cheaper and easier to secure than the other Rossoneri targets, such as Hakim Ziyech of Chelsea and Real Madrid’s Isco or Dani Ceballos.
