Lorenzo Insigne had the first chance of the game, but his effort from the edge of the box was wide of the far post.
The Azzurri had a promising start, but Atalanta scored with their first shot on target with a terrific right-foot effort of Duvan Zapata from 27 yards.
Napoli suffered a setback and Matteo Pessina doubled La Dea’s lead at the end of a very-well executed attacking move. Zapata assisted the former Hellas Verona man who finished at the near post.
Muriel had a chance each to make it three, but his right-foot attempt was wide of the far post and the same is true of Zapata, whose left-foot shot from point-blank range went over the bar.
A Lozano goal gave hope to Napoli at the beginning of the second half. The Mexican’s first attempt was blocked by Pierluigi Gollini, but the former PSV was the quickest one to get to the ball and score on a rebound.
Atalanta reacted with Josip Ilicic and Matteo Pessina who forced Ospina into a save, but it was the latter man who once again found the net after dribbling past two defenders and chipping the ball over the Napoli goalkeeper.
