Davide Astori says Napoli ‘lost sight of the real negotiation’ earlier this summer, but praises Fiorentina’s ‘great potential.’

The centre-back had appeared close to a move to the Partenopei a few weeks ago, before pulling out at a late stage of negotiations and joining La Viola.

"At one point with Napoli we lost sight of the real negotiation and began favouring other aspects and only drawing attention to my refusal,” he said to Tuttosport.

“Anyway, Fiorentina and their sporting director Pradè convinced me in a few minutes. There is great potential here and with Paulo Sousa there is the desire to begin a new cycle.”

The Italy international also spoke about some of the Coaches he has worked under in the past, and the continuing saga over Joaquin’s future in Florence.

"I have nothing but respect and gratitude for [Massimiliano] Allegri, he gave me my debut in Serie A.

“[Rudi] Garcia has brought a bit of the international to Roma. Sousa seems more Italian than foreign to me in the way he attends to tactics and prepares for matches. Fiorentina already has its own identity.

"I’ve only got to know Joaquin recently but I can already see that he has an important role in the group. I don’t want to add anything more.”
