Davide Astori has outlined Roma’s ambition for reaching the winter break, as he warns of the enthusiasm weekend opponents Inter will have.

The Giallorossi will host the Nerazzurri on Sunday evening looking to keep up the pace with League leaders Juventus, who are in action in the preceding kick-off slot against Torino.

For Roma’s centre-back, the test against Inter deserves particular focus for the opponents’ mindset.

“Certainly the change in Coach gives them more motivation and an initial boost,” Astori has told Roma TV.

For Roma’s centre-back, the test against Inter deserves particular focus for the opponents’ mindset.

“Certainly the change in Coach gives them more motivation and an initial boost,” Astori has told Roma TV.

“We know that Mancini is good and that the team has the potential to play at a high level.

“I believe that there will be a lot of enthusiasm from them from the arrival of a new Coach as charismatic as Mancini.

“They have very strong individuals, I can talk about Icardi, Palacio, Osvaldo, world class players. One must be attentive to the individuals and to the team.

“This will be a game against a great team. It will be a tough game, but we remain set on our goal, which is to get to Christmas with the most points possible and to progress in the Champions League.

“We have great enthusiasm too, we know we are in the race for both competitions, with the ability to play three home games on the trot.

“Destiny in our own hands? Injuries have been our concern. Many players have been out for a long time and without them it has been difficult, but we have responded.

“Our group is cohesive and up to the 94th minute they fight for every ball. Football is this. The belief is always the same and after recent games it is perhaps even higher. From these small quakes we have become even more united.

“The home games are key so as to allow us to maintain the small gap we have behind Juventus – to get to the winter break three points or fewer behind Juventus would be a great result.”
