With a potential ban on the horizon for breaching betting regulations, Aston Villa fans are eager to check whether they will still have to purchase Nicolò Zaniolo from Galatasaray.

The Italy international has been sent home from the Azzurri camp ahead of EURO 2024 qualifiers against Malta and England, as he is under formal investigation for using illegal betting sites.

The alleged breaches were from during his time as a Roma player, reportedly even making bets on his own team in the Coppa Italia when he was in the squad.

Considering the potential for a ban of circa three years, Aston Villa fans are anxiously checking back on the agreement made with Galatasaray in August.

Zaniolo arrived on loan for €5m plus performance-related bonuses of a maximum of €1.375m.

There is an obligation to make the move permanent if certain conditions are met and that was set at €22.5m plus another €15.5m in add-ons.

That would take the total cost of the transfer to €44.375m, plus a 10 per cent cut of the sell-on fee.

In British Pounds, that would be circa £4.27m for the loan plus £1.18m in bonuses, an option to buy for a further £19.21m and another £13.23m in add-ons.

It remains to be seen what the conditions are that would make the Zaniolo move permanent.

So far this season, Zaniolo has made nine appearances for Aston Villa, not contributing any goals or assists.
