A Gazzetta dello Sport article that blamed Juan Jesus for ‘three errors’ he made in the racist row with Francesco Acerbi caused outrage in Italy on Tuesday.

Juan Jesus accused Acerbi of racism after a Serie A game between Inter and Napoli at the Stadio Meazza on Sunday.

The Brazilian defender said after the game that Acerbi had apologised, but then the Italy international denied making racist remarks, prompting Juan Jesus to release a statement on social media.

Acerbi pulled out of Italy’s national team and is expected to be heard by the FIGC Prosecutor in the coming days.

Italian media are widely debating the issue, but a Gazzetta dello Sport article by Giancarlo Dotto on Tuesday caused outrage in the country.

Dotto wrote that Spalletti was right to send Acerbi home, but also blamed Juan Jesus.

According to the journalist, the Napoli defender made ‘three errors.’

The first time was when he “only reported” Acerbi’s insults to the referee; the second was when he revealed Acerbi’s alleged racist remarks after the final whistle, trying to underplay what had happened on the pitch and the third time was when he released a social media statement, clearly explaining what happened. According to Dotto, Juan Jesus should have done that on Sunday night rather than saying he had forgiven his opponent.

Several journalists and fans have been commenting on Dotto’s article on X, formerly Twitter, highlighting that blaming the victim rather than the alleged guilty party was entirely wrong.

  1. This is boring
people need to get over this.
Worse things are happening in this world, life is too short to be caught up in this.

I know people have been brainwashed into this ”racism is the be all and end all’ but it’s got old. people need to grow a pair and move on. this is exactly what the puppeteers running this psy op want. us bickering and being butt hurt over everything. lets be men and get over this.

  2. There are more important things going on, and Sam, whilst I agree that Racism has gotten out of hand and the world has become extremely snowflakey, there is no excuse for a grown man to be racist towards one of his peers, regardless of him being an opponent or not. He even has black team mates!!! It’s so contradictory. It is no surprise he is an ex Lazio player.
Italy has become one of the worst countries for racism and we should be ashamed of it. Examples need to be made to cut this out of our country and sport once and for all. Ban Acerbi for a whole year. If he does it again, ban him for another year. If he does it again, ban him for another year! There should be no excuse and a no mercy approach to rid the world of racism.

  3. As an Italian from Italy I can say: why even be racist? Wtf merits this complex. Italy offers nothing good to the world… so where does this idea that you’re better than someone else come from.

Look at the economy, EU had to bail out the bonds otherwise financial disaster would occur. If acerbi did make racist insults, trash human being
