Fiorentina will be without striker Arthur Cabral for several weeks after he was diagnosed with a serious thigh strain.

The centre-forward limped off during the 2-1 win over Sassuolo at the weekend and tests have shown the damage is worse than previously feared.

A statement from Fiorentina’s medical staff confirms there is a Grade II lesion to the femoral bicep in the left thigh.

This type of injury usually requires the better part of a month to fully recover from.

It is a blow for the Viola, because the 24-year-old Brazilian had been on good form, scoring in the 1-1 draw with Monza.

The situation is further exacerbated by the on-going fitness problems of Luka Jovic, leaving coach Vincenzo Italiano short-staffed in attack.

Jovic is in the squad for tomorrow’s Coppa Italia Round of 16 tie against Sampdoria, but it remains to be seen if he’s ready to start.

Also absent are Riccardo Sottil and midfielder Rolando Mandragora.
