Fabian Ruiz seems to be the latest Serie A star to snub a move to Arsenal, with the Gunners who signed just three Serie A players from Italy in the last ten years.

Ruiz’s contract at the Stadio Maradona expires in 2023 and Napoli will likely sell him over the summer as contract extension talks with the midfielder’s entourage have led nowhere so far. Tuttosport journalist Raffaele Auriemma has revealed that the Gunners made their offer for the 25-year-old who doesn’t seem interested in moving to North London as he prefers PSG or Real Madrid.

Arsenal dealt Fabian Ruiz transfer blow

Ruiz would become the latest Serie A star to snub a move to Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s side has tried to sign many players from Italy over the last few years but only managed to get Bologna‘s Takehiro Tomiyasu last summer. The 23-year-old has played 18 games with the Gunners so far this season.

Arsenal’s attempts to get the likes of Manuel Locatelli, Joaquin Correa and Dusan Vlahovic were vain. Locatelli and Vlahovic joined Juventus while Correa swapped Lazio with Inter.

Torreira’s Fiorentina future in doubt: ‘Arsenal still upset for Vlahovic’

The Gunners were in advanced talks to sign Vlahovic in the January transfer window and had reached an agreement in principle with Fiorentina, but the striker picked the Old Lady instead. Lucas Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur has revealed that the Gunners are still quite upset because of the collapsed deal.

Arsenal have signed just three Serie A players in the last ten years. Aside from Tomiyasu, they also got Emiliano Viviano from Palermo in 2013 and Lucas Torreira from Samp in 2018. They also signed Mathie Flamini and Stephan Lichtsteiner after their spells at Milan and Juventus, but the midfielder and the defender signed with Arsenal after the end of their contracts in Italy.

12 thought on “Arsenal’s mission impossible: sign a Serie A star”
  1. Arsenal is a crappy club owned by an American. He bought it thinking it was a football team like in the U.S. then realised it’s another sport. They are the worst people to own teams. They only care about their pockets. Not like the CCP who looks after pride.

  2. This is getting ridiculous. Serie A clubs and players should have no right to refuse offers from EPL clubs. EPL is a true super league and players should never be deprived of their dream of playing in it. Even football-Italia gets this. That’s why 80% of their articles are about EPL. No one cares about boring Serie A anymore.

  3. @Mike China and the CCP care and now we are not allowing your stupid league to appear on Chinese TV. Go and read the news.

  4. China not showing premier league has nothing to do with quality of the league.

When was the last time an Italian club won the champions league?

  5. China and Inter are amateurs compared to the EPL. Liverpool toyed with Inter in CL. Any club in England can sign any player on Inter or Juve or Milan. They can easily triple their wages. The problem is the illegal manipulation Italian clubs conduct on the players. Players like Chiesa, Vlahovic, Barella, and Theo are too good for Italy. Even Football-Italia knows that. Tottenham gets more coverage on this site than Juve and Inter.

  6. LOL The only reason this site talks so much about the EPL is becasue it is owned by a UK company. You guys don’t know anything! Are you 12-13 years old kids from london? ROFL

  7. @mike take the foreign money and mercenary players that go to epl for money out the league and what are you left with?

When was the last time England won anything seeing they have the “best league in the world”

Bring back the 3 foreigner rule then we will see how strong EPL is

  8. EPL is as interesting as Serie B The good players use it as a stepping stone to get to the serious football clubs of Europe.

  9. @MiKe Clearly you don’t know what your talking about…
FYI the epl club which won CL last year due to Russian oil money is getting sold..
Man city bragging about Saudi oil money yet nothing in their CL showcase..
Italian clubs have more CL victories than epl can even dream of…
Like snake said, if 3foreigners rule was implemented in epl ur dumb league would implode 🤣

  11. China and the CCP will fall and show themselves for the paper dragon they really are. Chairman Winnie the Pooh will pay a harsh price for his belligerent ways. Just like the park footy known as the chinese pooper league.
