Torreira’s Fiorentina future in doubt: ‘Arsenal still upset for Vlahovic’

Lucas Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur confirms that Fiorentina want to buy Lucas Torreira on a permanent deal, but Arsenal are upset with the Tuscans following Dusan Vlahovic’s move to Juventus.

The 22-year-old was the Gunners’ main transfer target during the winter transfer window, but the Serbia international picked Juventus instead.

Fiorentina tried to persuade their former striker to move to London, but their efforts were vain. The Premier League giants are now upset with the Tuscans and this could affect Fiorentina’s chances to sign Torreira on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

The Uruguay international moved to the Stadio Artemio Franchi on loan in the summer and Fiorentina can make his move permanent at the end of the current campaign for €15m. There were reports that the Tuscans would try to get the 26-year-old for a lower fee, but the player’s agent has suggested that Arsenal may not be willing to negotiate with La Viola.

“Fiorentina want to buy him on a permanent deal, Torreira is playing very well in Florence,” Bentancur told Sport890, an Uruguayan radio station. “He is the same player who used to be, dynamic and consistent.

“However, Arsenal are a bit upset because they wanted Dusan Vlahovic, who went to Juventus instead.

“Fiorentina wanted to sell him to Arsenal, but the striker and his agents picked Juventus. Players have the last word.

“Torreira is happy in Florence, he is one of the best players there.”

Torreira has played 22 games across all competitions this season, scoring two goals.
