Lucas Torreira insists he wants to stay at Fiorentina but adds that he will be looking for a team that gives him regular paying time if a permanent move to the Stadio Franchi doesn’t materialise.

The Uruguay international was one of the standout performers at Fiorentina in 2021-22. The Arsenal loanee scored five goals in 31 appearances and the Tuscans are now in talks with the Gunners and the player’s entourage to make his move permanent.

Fiorentina and Torreira haven’t reached an agreement over the midfielder’s salary in Tuscany, but there seem to be problems also regarding a deal between the two clubs, even if Fiorentina have a €15m option to buy.

Torreira provided the latest transfer update after Uruguay’s 5-0 win over Panama last night.

“My idea is to stay at Fiorentina, but if [a move] doesn’t happen, I’ll search for a club where I can play regularly,” the 26-year-old said, as quoted by Sky Sport Italia.

“I am not thinking about anything at the moment, I want to rest a little because it was a busy season. I’ll meet my agent at the right time and we’ll make the best decision.”

Torreira’s contract at the Emirates Stadium runs out in June 2023. He has failed to justify his price tag at Arsenal following a €29m move from Sampdoria in the summer of 2018.
