Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has arrived in Italy ahead of his Fiorentina medical, on loan with option to buy for €16m.

He landed at Pisa airport this afternoon and will then travel by car to Florence, where he’ll settle in and prepare for tomorrow’s medical tests.

According to Sportitalia, the Uruguay international is expected to complete the transfer on loan for €1m with an option to buy for a further €15m at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

It is a return to Serie A for Torreira, who spent most of his career in Italy with Pescara and Sampdoria before the €28.6m move to Arsenal in 2018.

He had a loan with Atletico Madrid, but never felt at home in London or with Arsenal’s style of football.

The 25-year-old has 31 senior caps for Uruguay under his belt.

Torreira had also been linked with Roma and Lazio over the summer, but Fiorentina swooped in over the last few days.
