Monza have called up Pablo Mari for today’s friendly with Olympique Lyon, giving him his first taste of action since he was stabbed in late October.

The 29-year-old Spanish defender, who is currently on loan from Arsenal, was attacked in a supermarket in the outskirts of Milan on October 27, being stabbed in the back and shoulder in an incident that saw 47-year-old Carrefour employee Luis Fernando Ruggieri murdered in a random attack.

As reported by TMW, Mari has been called up by Raffaele Palladino for Monza’s upcoming friendly against Olympique Lyon, giving him the chance to take to the pitch for the first time since the attack.

Although the Spaniard will be fit enough to fully return to the fold in Lombardy soon, the club are still looking to pick up a new centre back in January. Mari has made eight appearances this season for Monza, scoring one goal and helping the side keep three clean sheets.
