Juventus director Maurizio Arrivabene notes that ‘somebody had to leave’ after the signing of Dusan Vlahovic and asks: ‘What’s the difference between Paulo Dybala and Gigio Donnarumma?’

The Bianconeri chief released an interview on Monday to explain Juventus’ decision not to extend the contract of Dybala beyond June 2022. He has again briefly spoken to Il Corriere dello Sport newspaper to clarify a few things after seeing fans and media reactions over the last few days.

“When we invested on Vlahovic, nobody understood that somebody had to leave,” he said.

“Honestly, more than somebody. Some claims make me laugh and the issue of free agents is taken lightly and misleadingly by someone. Does it count for Dybala and not for Donnarumma?

“Free agent means that the player’s cost has been amortised. I’ve been even too clear. As a result of talking with footballing slang, nobody understands simple things anymore. Juventus comes before anyone and anything else to me. I know that I am not going to change football, but at the same time, football won’t change me.”

Arrivabene had warned Dybala that he had to prove his worth for Juventus and appeared to taunt the Argentinean star and Matthijs de Ligt in December when he said players were ‘more loyal to their agents than clubs.’

Nevertheless, the Bianconeri had reached an agreement to extend Dybala’s contract until 2026 and changed their stance after the signing of Vlahovic. Back in September, vice president Pavel Nedved claimed that Dybala would have become the ‘future captain’ of Juventus.

  1. But you could have opted for much proven Berardi lets say, or Abumeyang who really shines right now…or wait till summer window to sign Dusan for free…I thought we have Dusan’s heart already…don’t we? After all if it only to get safely in 4th place why would we bother to sign Dusan…our current squad would surely enough

  2. So basically you strung Dybala along. Everyone talks about how the Juve badge is bigger than anyone person in the organization. What about Agnelli? He thinks he is Juve! Dybala was loyal until the end.

BTW, all those clamoring for a Pogba reunion, he has missed more games in the past 3 years than Dybala. Watch what you wish for.

Lastly, if someone was going to go as you say, Arrivabene, why not Rabiot, Arthur, Bonucci, Sandro on top of Ramsey, Kulusevski and Betancour?

You people can’t even get out of your own way with the lies!

  3. Two words to describe Juve actions right now especially the director : Ignorant and Arrogant.
How many times Dybala’s goals were game winning ones and game changer. You deminished his role when brought in Ronaldo who cared only about himself and you were paying him 30 millions net. Look at him at united. He ruined them too. He destroyed the team play and spirit and now you are crying out for 1 million extra for Dybala’s wages. At this current time you will rarely find a player of his calibre and loyal to a club like him. As for the injuries, didn’t you notice that most of the Juve team is struggling with muscles injuries? Isn’t weird? I have doubts about Juve medical team. They aren’t looking after the players good enough. The problem is them. We will definitely regret not extending Dybala’s contract especially if he goes to Inter or Milan. Juve did the same with Romero and Demiral. We keep selling good players and keeping the odd ones. Really strange. Let’s wait and see what’s gonna happen moving forward. The coming days will prove you wrong Juve directors.

  4. Lol, just when Juve get the missing piece, Vlahovic to play alonside Dybala and make their attack truly lethal, they go and destroy it. They are a club that thinks individuals and not “team” win games. If you cant really afford to pay financially to build a “team” to win the CL then don’t play the game at all because one Ronaldo or one Vlahovic without a supporting cast will not get you trophies. Best of luck with Rabiot. Money well spent right there.

  5. Why do people forget that the signing of Vlahovic wasn’t the end of Dybala, it was Chiesa signing last year. With Freddy Church on the team it means a 4-3-3 which Dybala can’t play.

  6. The difference between Dybala & Donnarumma for Juve is:

Donnarumme has helped Juve win nothing.

    Dybala ha helped Juve win
    5 Scudetti (back to back)
    4 Coppa Italia
    3 doubles (back to back)
    & made 1 UCL final

  7. Morata, Dusan and Chiesa. No room for dybala. Room for another Mckinney or Locatelli to build around. Dybala did it to himself by wanting to be “the Center of the program” and not just getting on with the job.

although Management is a bunch of crackheads under investigation… cant wait for UCL 2023!
