Counter reports are emerging that discredit talk of Napoli defender Salvatore Aronica’s proposed transfer to Palermo.

The centre-back, who turns 24 in two weeks, was linked with a switch to the Renzo Barbera earlier this week. However, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has declared through his website that the Palermo-born stopper’s agent is in advanced talks with Riccardo Bigon over the extension of his contract.

Aronica recently declared a desire to renew his current deal that expires this summer and Di Marzio believes that representative Alessandro Moggi is close to agreeing a one-year extension with sporting director Bigon, with the option for a second year also inserted.

This news follows Mediagol.it’s interview with the player’s father that revealed a similar version of events. Giovanni Aronica confirmed that where his son had held discussions with other clubs in light of anxiety about his soon-to-expire Napoli contract, his first choice is to remain with the Partenopei and that more recently, President Aurelio De Laurentiis had offered a new deal.
