Damian Emiliano ‘Dibu’ Martinez was named Best Goalkeeper at the World Cup and the Aston Villa man’s agent admits Serie A would be an interesting move for the Argentina hero. ‘He is targeting the Champions League.’

The 30-year-old performed several big saves during the thrilling 3-3 World Cup Final against France, and of course during the shoot-out that gave Argentina the trophy.

He joined Aston Villa in a €17.4m deal from Arsenal in September 2020 and is under contract until June 2027, but with the World Cup secured is probably seeking a higher-profile transfer in January.

“There are few clubs right now who could afford a goalkeeper like him. But Serie A, why not?” agent Gustavo Doni told Tuttomercatoweb.

“Clearly, he is aiming high and targeting the Champions League.”

Martinez also showed during the Final all the worst aspects of his character, specifically the mind games with players during the shoot-out, throwing the ball so strikers had to walk further to get it, and then posing with the Golden Glove in a lewd fashion on the podium.

“It’s football, these were impulsive reactions. It is more important to talk about his decisive save only a few minutes from the end. He showed great skill.”

Doni also represents Fiorentina defender Lucas Martinez Quarta, who was left out of the Argentina squad after struggling for regular playing time at the Stadio Franchi.

“He has admirers in the Premier League and if a good option should present itself, we will evaluate it.”

Also his behaviour all throughout last year’s Copa Ametrica. Also the presenttion for the Golden Gloves, hos behavior in mocking Mbappe in the Dressing Room.

  2. “the worst aspects of his character” – if the author is going to mention this about Martinez then they should be consistent and mention every player who throws themselves down dramatically when they feel the slightest touch against their body from an opposing player, because that is so, so, so much worse than how Martinez behaved and it is an ENDEMIC problem in football.

    Brandon – grow up.
