Alberto Aquilani has moved to reassure Fiorentina fans over his contract situation, and says Lazio are not one of his options.

The midfielder’s agent Franco Zavaglia reiterated yesterday that there have been no talks between his client and the Viola, despite the fact Aquilani’s contract expires at the end of the season.

However, the former Liverpool man insists there is no friction between himself and the Fiorentina board.

“The situation is clear – my contract expires next June,” Aquilani began to the Corriere dello Sport.

“My relationship with the club is good, with directors I’ve known for a long time. So there’s no war!

“We’ve begun the journey [to a renewal], and we’re talking about it. But there’s still no news because I’ve played a lot of matches this season, including with the national team and therefore there wasn’t much time to talk.”

Aquilani has been with Fiorentina since 2012, but stated categorically that he has not grown bored with life in Tuscany.

“I’m fine here, and the club knows that. Also my family is doing really well here. As well as that, I have a Coach [Vincenzo Montella] who I really admire and respect.”

The fact that Aquilani has yet to renew his contract and could leave Fiorentina at the end of the season has led to links with a number of clubs, including Lazio.

Could Aquilani head back to Rome, where he spent seven seasons as a Roma player?

“Lazio? I’m not going there. Moving to Lazio as a player who’s played for Roma and vice-versa isn’t something you can really do.

“Possibly if I could just be regarded as a foreign player…”
