The Grifone striker had been one of the names thought to be on their way to Brazil with the Azzurri.

But the veteran goalscorer was left at home, with Antonio Cassano, Lorenzo Insigne, Mario Balotelli and Ciro Immobile preferred.

“I still feel bad for Alberto,” Antonini tld Sky Sport Italia. “I was expecting him to go having played well this season.

“I thought it was a forgone conclusion that he’d be on the plane, and instead he’s been left at home.”

The former Milan defender then commented on the coaching situation at San Siro, with Pippo Inzaghi coming in to replace Clarence Seedorf.

“I don’t know what happened. I thought they were building their project around Seedorf, but they’ve decided not to go in that direction.

“Inzaghi has good experience with the young players though. He’s a great Coach, so I’m sure he’ll do well with Milan.”
