Giancarlo Antognoni looked ahead to Napoli’s clash with Fiorentina and gave his favourite for the Serie A title race this season.

Inter’s 2-0 win over Hellas Verona yesterday means that the pressure is on for Luciano Spalletti’s side in their game against the Viola today. A win is required if they want to keep up the pressure on the Rossoneri, who face Torino later today. Fiorentina are desperately fighting to secure European qualification, however, and so they’ll prove tough opposition for the Partenopei.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Antognoni first discussed the quality of Napoli’s midfield and their coach Spalletti.

“They don’t score many goals, they are very strong in midfield, and they have quality players up front, not only Osimhen but also Insigne.

“I was surprised by Lobotka, who I had already seen at Celta, but he impressed me positively. Zielinski and Fabian Ruiz already knew each other. Spalletti gives you something extra, he gives you passion, experience and makes everyone play.”

He then commented on Napoli’s Scudetto hunt and the favourites for the league title this season.

“Possible, because he has an important squad, motivation and a supportive fanbase. All the fans push their team, but especially in Naples.

“But if I look at the schedule, Inter are favourites, then Napoli and Milan are on par.”

After today’s clash, Napoli still have to face Roma, Empoli, Sassuolo, Torino, Genoa and Spezia. Inter’s final games are against Roma, Bologna, Udinese, Empoli, Cagliari and Sampdoria. Both teams therefore have relatively similar ends to their campaigns.
