Fiorentina team manager Giancarlo Antognoni admits that while he ‘hopes’ Stefano Pioli stays on as Coach, ‘another decision can be made.’

Fiorentina went a sixth game without a win at the weekend, only drawing at home to Torino, while Pioli’s contract expires this summer.

“We’re experiencing a year of transition, we have a young squad and they need time,” Antognoni told Radio Anch’io Sport.

“However, Forence rightly doesn’t have the patience to wait too long. We’ve been on and off. We can be satisfied with the growth of some of the lads, but we’re lacking points in the table due to drawing too many games.

“We’re still in the Coppa Italia, which is our primary objective in view of the season finale. We’ve seen the football Pioli plays, we have a lot of young lads and we play a modern brand of football.

“We’re a little inexperienced and that’s why we concede a few goals too many. The Coach has done a good job for us.

“We’ll see how it goes. I hope he stays at Fiorentina but when things don’t go exactly as you’d like them to, another decision can be made.”

The Viola are viewed as one of Italy’s most historic clubs, but they have now gone 50 years without a Scudetto…

“Fifty years have passed,” their former No 10 acknowledged.

“After that, there have been two or three incidents where we could’ve replied, but we didn’t succeed.
Today it’s difficult for Fiorentina to fight for the Scudetto.

“When I played, it was closer at the top. To win the League you need a lot of money, although I hope the Della Valles remain.

“They’ll address the problems associated with the club’s finances.
