“We have the opportunity to get out of this negative period and to book our place in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia,” Antognoni told Rai Sport.

“It’s going to be a difficult match, but we are eager to go forward. It hasn’t been easy to swallow three consecutive Serie A defeats, but I saw a motivated team.

“We’ll achieve results with grit and determination. Right now, we are lacking somewhat on a psychological level, but hope to recover that confidence quickly.

“Our position in the table is not as good as we wanted, but we are still targeting European qualification and think we can get back on track soon.”

Despite the series of setbacks, President Rocco Commisso reiterated his confidence in coach Vincenzo Montella.

“We all have faith in Montella.”
